Smoking cigarettes - What does smoking do to you?
Smoking |
Smoking is one of the most dangerous habits in America.
Its harmful effects are well-documented, from damaging your body to damaging your pocketbook; it sends you on a path that's almost always going to be negative.
Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs, and feeling its effects can be extremely pleasurable.
This, coupled with the fact that smoking is socially accepted (even though it's unhealthy for you), makes for an addicting experience, and the repetition of this experience will override any negative effects.
That's why folks still get sucked into the habit despite how bad it is.
Smoking isn't worth it so why do people still do it? The answer lies in a mixture of human nature and addictive tendencies.
Smoking is an extremely addictive habit, partly because cigarettes are engineered as such with chemical additives and nicotine added solely for that purpose.
If you're smoking, this article isn't going to be helpful to you.
But if you're an avid smoker or fail to quit despite multiple attempts, then this piece is for you. Contrary to popular belief, there are things that can be done in order to help a smoker quit.
FIRST AND FOREMOST - DON'T POISON YOURSELF!
Smoking is the most dangerous habit a person can have, and it's simply bad for your health.
Here are the most important things to keep in mind:
1. Almost no one can quit just because they're told to do so.
Sure, many people are successful at quitting thanks to some sort of "quit smoking" book that they read or a motivational speech from an authority figure, but this isn't the norm.
Most smokers want to quit for various reasons, such as social and/or financial reasons, and the fact that they might not be able to stop just yet doesn't really mean anything.
